Mindfulness-Based Intervention for People with Cancer: 25 Years of Progress
Dr. Linda Carlson will review the development of the Mindfulness-Based Cancer Recovery program and summarize research evaluating its efficacy for treating anxiety, depression, stress symptoms, sleep, fatigue, and other psychosocial outcomes. She will also review recently published oncology clinical practice guidelines recommending mindfulness-based interventions and the overall evidence supporting these recommendations.
About Speaker
Dr. Linda Carlson is Full Professor in Psychosocial Oncology in the Department of Oncology, Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary, and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology. Her research in Psychosocial Oncology, Integrative Oncology, and Mindfulness-Based Cancer Recovery has appeared in many high-impact journals and book chapters. In 2011, she and Michael Speca published a patient manual entitled Mindfulness-Based Cancer Recovery: A step-by-step MBSR Approach to Help You Cope with Treatment and Reclaim Your Life. In 2016, she presented a TEDx talk entitled Mindfulness for Personal and Collective Evolution.
